Paperback: 224 pages
Publisher: Bob Ciaffone

This is definitely a thinking man's book. It discusses a lot of theoretical aspects of big-bet poker rather than specific hands or situations. This is similar to Sklansky's tournament book in general, but the advice presented here is far more specific and actually is geared towards No-limit cash ring games. However, the suggestions can obviously be applied to NL tournaments. The book addresses some problem situations that a lot of people find themselves in during No Limit play, such as playing draws, beating a bully, reading opponents, and how deep the money is. The second section addresses specific games, but it still does not give you specific advice on how to play specific hands. It simply applies the concepts to various situations.

Product Details
Paperback: 330 pages
Publisher: Two Plus Two Publishing LLC

Poker demands many skills and strategies. To be successful, you must be able to master all of them and then apply them at the appropriate times. They include proper hand selection, appropriate aggression, bluffing, semi-bluffing, understanding tells and telegraphs, choosing the right games, and reading hands. These skills do not come easily since they require unnatural actions. You cannot win just by "doing what comes naturally." This book does not provide strategic advice; you should get it from other Two Plus Two books. Dr. Schoonmaker is concerned only with the way that psychological factors affect your own and your opponents’ ability to play properly.

When this was first published in the seventies it caused a sensation. Immediately recognized as the most ambitious poker book ever written, it nonetheless was received with irritation by some professionals because it was believed that Doyle "Texas Dolly" Brunson and his collaborators gave away too much, thereby allowing the amateurs to catch up, thereby cutting into the professional player's take. And there is more than a little truth to this accusation....

Tournament poker is different from standard ring game poker. From a distance, it may look like a typical poker game, but there are many factors that can lead to proper strategy that is very different than what most players, (including good poker players), are familiar with.
Yet some people excel at tournament poker. This is not luck. These are players who have a good understanding of what the proper strategy adjustments are, and when they come into play. It is not a coincidence that the same players make it to the final table far more than their fair share.
This text is the first book ever written that explains tournament strategies which only a small number of players have mastered. It assumes you already know how to play poker well, but aren’t knowledgeable of tournament concepts and when and where to use them. Some of the ideas discussed include the effect of going broke, The Gap Concept, how chips change value, adjusting strategy because the stakes rise, all-in strategy, the last table, making deals, The "System," and much more.

Title: Harrington on Hold'em

Games: Texas Hold'em
Product Details
Paperback: 350 pages
Publisher: Two Plus Two Publishing LLC

This is a great book on no-limit hold'em tournament strategy. It has an easy-to-read style, and focuses on advanced topics. This is probably not a beginner's book, but will be very helpful to intermediate and advanced players. I consider this to be the best poker book I have ever read, and I've read most of them. Even if your style differs from Harrington's (and he does tend to be of a more conservative mentality than most), this book will absolutely add to your game.
